These bits of visual research probe into the questions surrounding raw materials found in Antananarivo, Madagascar used for the bustling informal building industry. After our bus broke down in a mining town on the way to Mahajanga I began to think about the connection between the much desired raw materials and their places of extraction. These looping films play with and juxtapose place and home, longing and belonging. The film is a collaborative experiment made during a residency with Ng'endo Mukii and Loris Behanzin, drawing together desire, mined gems, labour and land.
